The Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) today demanded a judicial probe be conducted in parallel to the already ordered CBI inquiry into the Kambalapalli caste car- nage which claimed seven dalits in Kolar district two months ago.

Addressing the State-level rally organised by the DSS, Samiti State Convenor M Jayanna demanded that the government order a judicial probe into the incident. Though a CBI probe has been ordered by the government, nothing has materialised so far and hence it is necessary to con- duct a judicial enquiry to ensure speedy justice to the displaced Dalits of Kambalapalli village, Mr Jayanna maintained.

Incidentally, it was the DSS which earlier had urged the gov- ernment to hand over the case to the CBI for investigation, when the latter had decided to order a judicial inquiry. The DSS leaders had then cited judicial probes to be very slow when it comes to completion.

Mr Jayanna also demanded that Central Reserve Police Force be deployed along with the State Police in Kambalapalli and sur- rounding villages in order to pre- vent the recurrence of such horrid instances and to protect the lives of dalits.

The other demands included implementation of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act - 1989 and to conduct the trial per- taining to the Kambalapalli car- nage in a special court after inves- tigation and to confiscate the property of those found guilty.

The DSS members also demanded that Chief Minister S M Krishna relinquish office by owning moral responsibilty for the death of seven dalits.

RALLY: Earlier in the morning, thousands of people participated in a rally taken out from Chikkalalbagh to the Government Arts College Grounds on Ambedkar Veedhi where the pub- lic meeting was held. The rallyists had converged in the City from different parts of the State.

DSS leaders Mavalli Shankar, Sridhar Kalavira, Indira Krishnappa, R Muniyappa, N Giriappa and others participated in the rally.
